Help please! Residency

Hi, My husband and son are wanting to move to Lanzarote, we wish to buy a property however, I believe we can only get residency if our income is over 42.000euros (38k for a couple + 6k for a child) per year or we buy a house more than 500.000euros. The plan was to buy an old house 300k do it up,we had found one, and live off an income of 20k bolstered by part time jobs but we can not guarantee the figures. In 10 years our income exceeds the 42k bracket as pensions kick in.
Is there any way around this or have I miss understood the criteria.
Your help / advice would be appreciated.
