How do I register for utilities
Hi,
I am in the process of buying a villa in Lanzarote, how do I register for electricity, water and community taxes?
Can it all be done online?
Thank you for any help.

Hi Jason, if the villa has already been registered with utilities (i.e. not a newly built villa), your lawyer will transfer the existing utilities over to you and set up bank transfers each month. (I'm not sure, but this might be a legal requirement and you'll get copies of the relevant paperwork once you're the owner). Your lawyer will also send your details to the Ayuntamiento for local taxes - 'rubbish' tax and equivalent council tax. At a later date (we were told once you've received your first bills by post - Aug/Sept) you can then set up direct debits by getting the correct forms from the Ayuntamiento. To be honest, you can probably set up the direct debits before you receive your first bills, certainly worth a try. Hope this helps.

Thanks Ginny, that’s good to know. It is not a new build so I will ask my lawyer.
I’ve got a local bank account so can also set up the direct debits. Do you know if the accounts can also be managed/ monitored online?
Kind regards.

Yes, once your lawyer has set up the direct debits, Canal Gestion (water) and Endesa (electricity) can be monitored on line. Although, it can take a while and a lot of patience to set up your on-line account !!

Bernice,
You will need to contact the supplier direct. But as previously mentioned, you need to be patient. They seem to be back in time hehe with this sort of stuff.
Kind regards
Catherine
