The first time I arrived in Lanzarote on holiday I can honestly say I fell in love with this beautiful country and the people. I have had many happy times and look forward to my holiday there every year.

However, this year has left me devastated and without a holiday.

I booked Villa Linda in Playa Blanca and paid my £580 deposit for 2 weeks in November. Not to go into too much detail, the ex property manager advised me to cancel the villa as the owner ignored the customers complaints, which were quite a few, the villa was in desperate need of upgrading and he was in dispute with her over monies due.

As you can imagine this left me very anxious and I contacted the owner to cancel. She was very rude and uncooperative and refused to refund my deposit which she has kept even though I cancelled months in advance. I therefore have been left with no holiday and out of pocket because of the greed and lies of this owner.

I am just trying to make everyone aware of this owner as I dont want anyone else being ripped off.

Sadly, I'll have to postpone my holiday until next year !

Very sad but a lesson learnt.

Never pay upfront unless it's a trusted company or someone you know.

Many people pay peanuts for a holiday but expect five star luxury. I've heard of people complaining because the wine glasses were too small !

Personally I'd bite the bullet, ring the owner back and continue with your holiday.

It possibly does need an update but as long as it's clean I'm sure you will still enjoy your holiday. After all you will probably only use it to sleep in.

Unfortunately the owner has every right to keep your deposit, image if you rented out your home and at the last minute a guest cancelled, you loose serious money.

Good luck with your decision.

Unfortunately your taking the word of the ex manager as he seems to have an issue remember there is always 2 sides to a story the owner has every right to keep the deposit as thats what it is a deposit to secure the villa for that period of time i agree with the previous you should have continued with your holiday and made your own mind up about conditions

There is 2 sides to every story, however had the owner acted professionally she should have removed the ex manager's name and contact number from the website as soon as he left. Had that been done I wouldn't be having this discussion !

I understand how the deposit system works and fully agree with it. However I also know that in exceptional circumstances the deposit can be returned. The owner was unwilling to even consider it even though I asked to cancel 5 months in advance.

This was supposed to be my first family holiday since having a heart attack but this situation between the ex manager and the owner has left me with unnecessary stress and anxiety and also out of pocket and no holiday !!!

Of course, I understand but that's the Spanish way ( manana manana )

I've just returned from a two week holiday bed and breakfast for £569 including flights etc.

Mid to end of November should be cheaper depending on the airline's not holding us to ransom with the flights.

I could have stayed another week for only £29 per night but so called budget Sleezy jet wanted nearly £800 one way ! !

Outrageous.

Hope you sort something and your health is on the mend

Hi, I feel the same way about Lanzarote as you do. And I feel bad you are going to miss your holiday there. I agree with the person who replied to you: how bad can it be? Recent trip advisor reviews of Villa Linda are fine. The ex-property manager might not be the best person to advise you? And yes, the point of deposits is the safeguard both you and the owner.  The country is still beautiful and a wonderful place to be.  I would put my worries aside and go on holiday.  Good luck! Susan

As for a copy of their terms and conditions- we are owners and my terms and condition are clear upset like this is caused when holiday makers don't know what will happen if they cancel

Good luck
