Owning a holiday home in Lanzarote has recently thrown up some security concerns, in particular the possibility of squatters - are there many instances of this on the island and can any of the forum members advise the best deterrent and security measures needed when leaving a property unoccupied for a few months? It is not in a gated or holiday complex, just an upper floor flat with the entrance accessed by a stairway going up to the doors on the outside terraces. It's in a quiet residential street and is alarmed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, many thanks

Hi Lawrie67

Cameras could help in securing the property.  Just read an article in the courts section of La Voz and a guy was breaking into property in Playa Blanca but the owner had cameras installed so rang the police immediately and they caught him at the scene.

The owner lived overseas at the time.

Hope this helps.

Hi Fiona. Thanks for responding. I think we will install them linked via WiFi.  Have you heard of much squatting taking place ?  Lawrie
