Flooded Apartment

Hi, looking for some advice please. We returned to our apartment end of August to find it had been flooded accidently by apartment above. The owner of this apartment contacted his Insurance and after waiting over 4 weeks it seems they are sending somebody to fix the damaged ceilings and walls etc. The Insurance Company said they were not liable for any damage to our furniture or any loss of rental income and that they would only plaster and paint. They said we should contact our own insurance regarding contents. I don't understand this as the person responsible for the flood has admitted it was their fault and why should we claim off our insurance when we did nothing wrong. Would be very grateful for any info. Thank you.
