Hi me and my daughter fly out at the end of July but because of the news about protesters not being happy with tourists I’m a bit worried and not sure if I should cancel our holiday. Is it really as bad as what the news says?

Hello,

I am not aware of any protests other than what I’ve heard in UK media. Maybe not surprising as without tourism there would be very little here and unemployment would possibly be 90%. Local media has reported ever growing tourism. You may wish to direct your enquiry to local tourist information.

I hope this reassures you that the island remains a fantastic place to come to.

PS I do not work in any tourist business!

No protests planned until October. The one earlier this year was a peaceful protest in Arrecife about many issues, e g. lack of rental properties for residents. As usual the UK press centred on one issue only & blew everything out of proportion

That’s what they’re doing at the moment. So just thought I’d ask to make sure.

Hi. The reality is that the News is hyping this whole scenario. I live here in Puerto del Carmen.  The welcome is always amazing. Some of the other islands have some accommodation problems ans resources are stretched BUT any push-back is towards the local government NOT the tourists. The beaches ⛱️ are full... the energy is electric .. the food is always top notch and the 'tourists' are having a ball. Don't believe the hype.
