Using your TIE Card

Having recently posted regarding TIE Cards and Vijaes I was suprised by one of the comments that I received.
The message is a s follows, Having arrived at Stansted airport which was a mad house, people queing way back trying to get through passport control. Seeing the European Passport sign decided to put their UK passports away and went to the desk using the TIE card and straight through. No questions no drama and out of the airport in minutes.
Has anyone else done similar? Be interesting to know.
