Tillers and tile polishing

We've been told our marble tiles are not actually marble but a composit material and therefore any polishing will make them dull. we also have some cracked tiles which need replacing. Has anyone had experience of polishing composit tiles and also deep cleaning of grout without affecting the tiles. Are there any tile refurbishes out there? Thankyou.
