All,

Can you help, I am trying to establish what the latest is in terms of checks at the airport? I was there in August and it was a case of forms and temperature checks, but it looks like we may need a clear Covid test for the airport? I have my own place and understand the social distance rules, do I need a test to clear the airport?

Hi, this was posted yesterday by Destination Lanzarote.... And the confusion still wins. Today we are told that despite the regional government entering documentation allowing antigen tests for travel, the national legislation that requires PCR tests prevails. And that of course this may still change once more. Our local media carries news of two young people, citizens of Lanzarote, who were refused a flight home from the UK. Debate about their rights to be tested here on the island resulted in them being stranded for some days, until our government intervened and paid for their PCR.At the end of the day, the airlines are likely to be strictest of all. And all (to our knowledge) are requiring PCR tests. We've said it each time and we say it again, the only sure way to travel is to check the official boarding advice given at origin. Hope this helps a little.

As of right now, you must have a negative PCR test done within 72 hours of your arrival in Lanzarote. As of today, an antigen test will NOT get you in. And as of now, you can not get in to the Canaries after 1st January because U.K. is a non-EU country WITH high COVID rate. A Brexit deal may change that. You have to check gov.U.K. Sites everyday right now. Sorry.

Looks like it all stops for a while!

ONLY SPANIARDS AND RESIDENTS CAN ENTER SPAIN FROM THE UK FROM TODAY

2020/12/22 07:18:04  Written by Canarian Weekly  National

The Government of Spain decided yesterday to disallow arrivals from the UK, except for Spanish citizens or residents, due to the new strain and increased transmissibility of the coronavirus, with immediate effect from today.

This decision was made after yesterday’s emergency meeting of the EU which analyzed the effects of the new strain detected in the United Kingdom, and called for non-essential travel to be avoided. For this reason, Spain will suspend from today, the entry into all Spanish territory (including the Canary Islands) of citizens from the United Kingdom, except for Spanish nationals or residents in Spain.
