Hi, myself and husband are hoping to buy a property on the island, and are wondering what the procedure is after an offer is made and accepted. Does the estate agent dealt with the entire purchase and instruct solicitors etc or would we have to do this ourselves. Don’t really know where to start! Thanks for any advice/info :)

Thanks Jacque55, we’ve had viewings with Ropers and they’re a great company. Hoping that if a property suitable for us comes up with another agent, that they’d arrange everything too.

Please be aware that not all estate agents are the same.  Also the agent is acting on behalf of the seller not you, the buyer.  We employed a very good lawyer (Gorka Centeno in Arrecife).  He ensured that the property was legally owned by the seller, that there was no outstanding debt (which you would be liable for)  that the pool was legally registered (which it turned out not to be, so he made the seller register the pool correctly before we purchased the property - saved us a lot of time, money and heartache).  Please be careful and ensure you have a legal representative.  It´s not expensive out here.  Good luck!
