Hi All - we are from the UK and have recently bought a property in Lanzarote - can anyone advise us is there any high street or online bank that does not charge a €16 monthly fee. We seem to being charged this as we are not Spanish residents but have to follow the 90 day rule now. Other online options do not seem to offer the direct debit payment facility- only no charge purchase transactions- any help appreciated 🙏🏼

We have been using bbva online banking for the last year and it’s been excellent plus zero bank charges, hope this helps

Yes we are, 22years but I am not sure that makes any difference, you would have got your NIE number so that would be sufficient to open an account. If you are not great with the Spanish the online account is also in English so very easy.

Hi " Lambo" did you have to use one of their facilities to have Zero Bank Charges? the reason I ask is they replied to say we must use ..Credit cards or Ins. cover.. plus one other option?  They are charging us 15€ per quarter

How very odd, we just set it up online and we got the account, we did immediately set up a couple of direct debits and over a few weeks put all our other main bills, electric and water, we have never been charged a cent. Are you a resident as that may make a difference?

If you are non resident and being charged €15 a quarter that is the best by far - if you are a resident that’s a lot as I know bbva does not charge

As a non resident property owner the best I can seem to get is €40 a quarter with Banco Sabadell or €15 a month with Santander - if anyone who is non resident has anything better please let me know - cheers

Hi Fiona

We also own a home and Non Residents and we are with Santander. We do not incur any bank charges on the proviso that we pay in a minimum of 100€ a month.

All our direct debits for the villa are from this account and they have been excellent. The online banking app is really easy to set up and is in English if that helps.
